So it’s been an interesting day of discovery in my little world. Today I picked up my cousin Amber (15) and she, Aidan, and I went swimming at my apartments. We went to the pool closest to my house and it was a little too “lived” in. hehe… it’s the pool that everyone goes to because the other one is right next to the leasing office and you’re not supposed to drink, etc. But everyone does at the pool over here. Anyway…

So we decided, let’s try the other pool. So we headed on over there.

Less than a min after we got there this guy who was at the other pool came in too. He wasn’t swimming, wasn’t dressed for swimming or anything. That man asked more questions about my son in less than 30 seconds than anyone ever has. He asked how old he was, what’s his name, commented that little kids have no fear (only he said it in the most creepy way). I already got a weird vibe from him before, but that sealed the deal for me… this guys is no bueno. So I give him the cold shoulder and he starts asking my cousin questions about her like what school she goes to, does she live there, etc, and then asked her about Aidan.

Aidan is getting more brave in the pool now and wants to play alone on the first step… he was doing that, and I kept looking at this guy and it was like he was leaning toward us. It was seriously not cool.

This other lady who was swimming alone was getting ready to leave and couldn’t get the gate open. Our gates @ the pools – the locks don’t turn right so you can get stuck @ the pool – neato, eh? Anyway, so he helps her get out and leaves with her… like right next to her. So I thought he was there and knew her.

Well it turns out everyone later realized we each thought he was there with the other people he was bugging.

So we chilled out once he left. Then a different lady came by the pool and she was with the 2 teenage boys who live above us. She asked us if a guy who met the creepy man’s description was at the pool. I said yes, he was asking us all kinds of questions. That’s when the other dad at the pool w/his 10 yr old boy said, “Oh I thought he was with you.”

These boys are not related to the lady, but they were looking out – I noticed them hanging by my cousin in the spa when the guy was still milling around outside the pool area. Well they saw this lady who I guess has talked to their parents before and they let her know he was around. That’s why she came by.

Anyway, she let’s us know he’s a registered sex offender and he has followed her and her daughters from pool to pool several times. She said she confronted him as he was following her one time and said she was going to call 911 if he didn’t go to his house and stop following her. Creeeeepy.

So we realized that today we were the ones he followed. He tried to talk to me at the other pool, but I was in mid-conversation w/my cousin so I didn’t reply. When we left he popped up at the other pool right after.

She said the office is the one who told her of his status. It all fit but I didn’t want to jump to conclusions too badly. But it all fit. The dad who was at the pool told his son if he saw that guy again to stay away and if he approched him to tell him to get away from him. We both asked if she knew what building he was in, and she told us. So I said, phew that was almost the building I moved into initially but we didn’t like the apartment.

On the way back home I went, wait a minute, that building is right across from my current apartment. Because the numbers wrap around, even though there are like 23 building numbers between us we are right across from that building. So I was like great.

Then the boys we saw earlier said they have a picture of his car saved on their cell phone because he’s approached them so many times. WHY is this guy still living here if he’s still preying on people? Grrr. Anyway, so they pointed out his car to me.

I got home and told Nick all about it and he asked if it was the guy he had seen when he dropped us at the pool initially and I said yes. He said, yah I’ve seen him I think he lives directly across from us.

Sure enough, after we just got back from taking Aidan for a ride in his wagon we saw the guy walk into his apartment – directly across from ours, great. And he saw us walk in as well of course.

So I look up the CA sex offender registry and sure enough he’s on there. He has a different address nearby – no doubt relocated from there. But it had a photo and it was him. Nice, now there’s this guy who could be right there anytime knowing my schedule, etc.

I am not like “paranoid” – I just think it’s kinda scary he already followed us today and was asking after Aidan, my little boy.

In looking I also saw another familiar street name on the list for my ZIP code and it is the street that a friend of mine lives on and she has a little girl. Man. I know everyone has to live somewhere but if they are not better yet, still pursuing people, kids, etc – then it’s an issue. It’s not just freedom or that they did the time, etc. It’s honest to goodness danger.

We’re just going to be a little more careful now about me going out alone at night. And although Nick doesn’t go in the pool w/us, he said he’s going to stay at the pool when we go from now on so there’s no worries.
