So I have been sick with a cold / allergies since early last week. I am sure the allergies came on because of the winds and fires. But it has turned into a cold as far as I can tell. I am still all congested, sneezing, etc.
The part that makes me think that it could still be allergies is that the A/C helps instead of making it worse.
Doesn’t change the fact that I feel like crud and my throat hurts so bad from all the post nasal drip.
I slept for an hour this afternoon – that’s my first sleep time in a couple days.
I’ve also had my blood sugar going super super low. I am so not used to this insulin thing even though it’s been about 3 or 4 months. I barely walk around the grocery store and that’s “exercise” enough to make my blood sugar 55 because I hadn’t eaten my snack yet. Didn’t know I had to eat my snack so soon after my breakfast, sheesh! 55 is very dangerously low blood sugar and I didn’t have anything besides orange juice to treat it and it wasn’t working very fast. So my doc said, hey it’s halloween – great time to buy candy, hehe. The only sure fire way to treat low blood sugar is with a straight sugar thing. Everything else takes too long to be absorbed.
So I said, fine, if I have to carry candy around and deal with this it’s going to be good candy, hehe. Other than the occasional jelly bean or something in someone’s office at work I don’t eat candy. And it’s been a while since I’ve done that, since last time it cranked my blood sugar up, hehe.
Anyway, I bought my old favorites: Nerds, LemonHeads, Chewy Spree, and Jolly Ranchers. Although when I opened the Jolly Ranchers I was super bummed there were only 2 watermelon and a ton of grape. Grape is the worst flavor and I might as well just drink cough medicine (taste wise of course).
I have had the low blood sugar several times now and it feels horrid. So basically I have to be eating like all the time to keep my sugar up enough. But not too much of certain stuff or it will go too high. Now I understand why people get those insulin pumps that have 24/7 glucose monitoring. At this point I wouldn’t mind a little thing stuck in my side to take care of it for me. I think pregos can get them, but super doubt my insurance would cover it. Plus I am almost 1/2 way through my PG (woo hoo) so I should be fine. If I had to stay on it after, maybe I’d think about it.
The other night my blood sugar after dinner dropped 59 points in less than 1/2 hour just from walking around Target. I know my blood sugar has always responded well to exercise – even light exercise – but this is rediculous. It’s not even that much walking. But by the time we were 1/2 way through the store I found myself telling Nick to hurry and asking him to push the cart. He said, “test your blood sugar”. I did and lo and behold it was nearly candy time again.
I am also going to carry juice boxes with me. Some people carry soda, but I can’t do it. It will be too tempting to drink and I just can’t with my GERD. No chest pains, thankyouverymuch.
When (if?) I go back to work in a couple of weeks (I say if because I am trying hard to get back, but it’s not 100% up to me, and I can’t go and leave and go and leave if I’m all jacked up) but to be optimistic … when I go back to work in a couple of weeks, I have a mini fridge in my office that I’ll have to stock with juice and stuff too. Man I am going to be sitting at my desk eating all damn day. People will think I am having twins, lol.
The funny thing is I still haven’t gained weight. I have been losing and then regaining and then losing the same 4 pounds or so this whole time. Right now I’ve been at the losing side for almost a month. I get weighed every week at my doc appt.
I am 17 weeks along now so that’s almost 1/2 way. 20 weeks is the normal 1/2 way point, but my 1/2 way is about 19 weeks so glory be, just have to double my time.
Still have to blog about the reunion….. maybe when I’m less whiney, haha.
Have a good day everyone!
