So I have been sick with a cold / allergies since early last week. I am sure the allergies came on because of the winds and fires. But it has turned into a cold as far as I can tell. I am still all congested, sneezing, etc.

The part that makes me think that it could still be allergies is that the A/C helps instead of making it worse.

Doesn’t change the fact that I feel like crud and my throat hurts so bad from all the post nasal drip.

I slept for an hour this afternoon – that’s my first sleep time in a couple days.

I’ve also had my blood sugar going super super low. I am so not used to this insulin thing even though it’s been about 3 or 4 months. I barely walk around the grocery store and that’s “exercise” enough to make my blood sugar 55 because I hadn’t eaten my snack yet. Didn’t know I had to eat my snack so soon after my breakfast, sheesh! 55 is very dangerously low blood sugar and I didn’t have anything besides orange juice to treat it and it wasn’t working very fast. So my doc said, hey it’s halloween – great time to buy candy, hehe. The only sure fire way to treat low blood sugar is with a straight sugar thing. Everything else takes too long to be absorbed.

So I said, fine, if I have to carry candy around and deal with this it’s going to be good candy, hehe. Other than the occasional jelly bean or something in someone’s office at work I don’t eat candy. And it’s been a while since I’ve done that, since last time it cranked my blood sugar up, hehe.

Anyway, I bought my old favorites: Nerds, LemonHeads, Chewy Spree, and Jolly Ranchers. Although when I opened the Jolly Ranchers I was super bummed there were only 2 watermelon and a ton of grape. Grape is the worst flavor and I might as well just drink cough medicine (taste wise of course).

I have had the low blood sugar several times now and it feels horrid. So basically I have to be eating like all the time to keep my sugar up enough. But not too much of certain stuff or it will go too high. Now I understand why people get those insulin pumps that have 24/7 glucose monitoring. At this point I wouldn’t mind a little thing stuck in my side to take care of it for me. I think pregos can get them, but super doubt my insurance would cover it. Plus I am almost 1/2 way through my PG (woo hoo) so I should be fine. If I had to stay on it after, maybe I’d think about it.

The other night my blood sugar after dinner dropped 59 points in less than 1/2 hour just from walking around Target. I know my blood sugar has always responded well to exercise – even light exercise – but this is rediculous. It’s not even that much walking. But by the time we were 1/2 way through the store I found myself telling Nick to hurry and asking him to push the cart. He said, “test your blood sugar”. I did and lo and behold it was nearly candy time again.

I am also going to carry juice boxes with me. Some people carry soda, but I can’t do it. It will be too tempting to drink and I just can’t with my GERD. No chest pains, thankyouverymuch.

When (if?) I go back to work in a couple of weeks (I say if because I am trying hard to get back, but it’s not 100% up to me, and I can’t go and leave and go and leave if I’m all jacked up) but to be optimistic … when I go back to work in a couple of weeks, I have a mini fridge in my office that I’ll have to stock with juice and stuff too. Man I am going to be sitting at my desk eating all damn day. People will think I am having twins, lol.

The funny thing is I still haven’t gained weight. I have been losing and then regaining and then losing the same 4 pounds or so this whole time. Right now I’ve been at the losing side for almost a month. I get weighed every week at my doc appt.

I am 17 weeks along now so that’s almost 1/2 way. 20 weeks is the normal 1/2 way point, but my 1/2 way is about 19 weeks so glory be, just have to double my time.

Still have to blog about the reunion….. maybe when I’m less whiney, haha.

Have a good day everyone! :)

A quick reminder that this year DST is different because of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. In previous years we changed in October. But now it’s the first Sunday of November.

Date change in 2007 (from http://webexhibits.org/daylightsaving/b.html)

On August 8, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This Act changed the time change dates for Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. Beginning in 2007, DST will begin on the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November. The Secretary of Energy will report the impact of this change to Congress. Congress retains the right to resume the 2005 Daylight Saving Time schedule once the Department of Energy study is complete.

I stumbled upon this a couple months back I think, but never got a chance to post it. It’s a funny fake movie trailer for “Minesweeper the Movie”. I think it’s pretty funny. Well considering I do turn to solitare and minesweeper when I get extremely bored.

Fire Update

Well, yesterday Nick said the Santiago fire wasn’t right near him anymore, just tons of smoke. Now it’s mostly in the canyons and moving the other way into the Cleveland Nat’l Forest. We live just north of where the 241 begins/ends off the 91 and so if it gets crazy enough it could move up there but it’s super super super unlikely. So for now for us, it looks like it’s just smoke and ash, which of course is still not fun, but at least flames aren’t right by my hubby.

It is indeed very sad that this is an arson fire and that they think whoever it was has fire fighting experience. I can “understand” something like a police officer taking kick-backs for monetary gain, or some scandal like that. But I don’t get the gain by setting a fire. Just for kicks? To satisfy a pyro need? Sad.

I am not sure why, but our power is still fluctuating. It’s not windy or anything, but it’s still happening. I am sure it will go away soon enough.

It’s been a tough week even apart from the fires, but I am hoping next week will be better. :)

So why is my husband at work?

So, my hubby got the word to come in today and he’s there (though I can’t reach him right now – probably in a meeting). But to give you an idea of where he’s at, I combined the OC register burn area map and then a blue box I drew of where his work is. Click here to see it in a new window.

So yah the Glenn Ranch Road part – that’s his only way out and the burn area actually shows being on part of the road. And that whole square below it is his work (it’s a big area).

It takes a long time just to get out of the parking lot to get to Glenn Ranch – he sat there for an hour and a half yesterday.

So…. um, yah why are they there? Sigh.

Oh and my power keeps fluctuating :(

Home Safe

Nick got home safe and is on his way to church now. It doesn’t look like he’s going to work tomorrow. His boss said she’d call him in the morning to let him know what’s up. Nick usually leaves at 6 so she won’t call him then, so he’ll have to keep an eye on the latest info for the Foothill Ranch fire to figure out whether to head in or not.

Ok, so over an hour and a half after Nick told me he was leaving he is finally clear of the little road and the big danger zone. Now he is on a fun journey of trying to get home. It will take him quite a while most likely but he’ll find a way around all the junk. He usually takes Santiago Canyon eventually getting to Cannon (which is Imperial Hwy) then up over to Serrano, then down Weir Canyon. So, yah, he can’t go anywhere close to his normal way, hehe.

So he’ll probably go the way he went yesterday which took him an hour and a half from this point, so I’ll see him close to 6:30 and then he has to fly down to the church in Fullerton to give our worship leader his keys so he can get into the building for practice (which starts at 7pm). Nick has our worship leader’s keys because he led worship last week while the worship leader was out of town. Nick is supposed to play this week, thus be a part of tonight’s practice but I don’t know if he’ll have the energy after all this, but who knows, it’s guitar – anything is possible. :)

Thank goodness he’s not by the flames anymore.

I am off to get Aidan from daycare. Have a good night everyone.

Oh and sooner or later I will post about my 10 year HS reunion that I went to on Sat night :)

Stuck in the fire area…

So I just got off the phone with Nick. I was hoping he was clear of the area by now since I last talked to him just before 3:30 and now it’s 20 after 4. But no, he’s stuck on the road, and they had the only branch off from that road blocked, so they’re just stuck all trying to get out this tiny road. I am so mad at his work for waiting until they got “official word” blah blah. Now everyone is in danger. His work is in a rural area basically on its own down a one lane road. That’s where he’s stuck.

Nick said everyone is being an a$$hole not letting people in, trying to maneuver around other cars to get ahead. It’s a panic / stampede line but with cars instead of people. So he’s still sitting there. I asked him where’s the fire in relation to you and he said “I’m looking at it”. His car has a thermostat and it’s 100 degrees outside his car. He has his A/C on but now has been sitting with the car on so long he’s down to less than a 1/4 tank of gas. And it’s not like there’s a gas station anytime soon. Not that he’s getting anywhere.

I know he’ll be ok, he has to be – but I hate that he has to sit in that. I can’t believe that fire officials, law enforcement, and a corporation would be so stupid as to put all these people in this situation. The evacuation order (I found out) at the time was actually voluntary – um, I guess they didn’t realize how many people work there? There’s not thinking ahead for ya. But the security guys at Nick’s work advised that everyone go and so his work issued the evacuation order stating that the Fire Dept said it was voluntary, but they wanted everyone to go.

Ok, so now they’re out and it’s been about an hour now and he’s just sitting there staring at the fire and his work.

….. waiting to hear he’s out of the area …..

So Nick just called me and let me know that his work is being evacuated. They are in Foothill Ranch, and the fire has been across the street all day today. I am surprised they didn’t have them go sooner considering over 1,000 people have to leave from the building and parking lot all at once. There’s one way out, so I hope it doesn’t get too jammed.

All the other businesses around them have been closed but his work has been pretty strict about trying to maintain normal working schedules. It’s actually unlike them to be so strict about something from what we’ve experienced so far with Nick working there, but I guess they just didn’t want to give in to panic or something? I guess it’s a lot of money to lose to send that many people home. Anyway, glad they are getting out of there now that they’ve been given evacuation orders.

It’s been crazy with him trying to get to and from work this week because he takes Santiago Canyon to get to work, and the alternate route of the 5 has been closed on and off. And when it was open it was deadlocked and not worth getting on anyway.

I hope all the people in the different fire areas are ok. I read on Kristi’s blog that there was a fire yesterday right by us, but I didn’t really see it or hear much else about it. I just know that Nick said the cops had it all blocked off on Weir Canyon. So maybe the fire there is out now that I can’t see anything from my house? I don’t know, there’s just lots of smoke everywhere from all the fires here.

I am sure Nick will make it home safely and all… but I’ll still feel much better once he’s away from the fire and home.

Baby 2.0

Baby 2.0 is what I am calling this baby. I didn’t want to steal Kristi and Justin’s food names (Sam was a different candy every week – or maybe it was every month, hehe, and the new baby is Oreo Cookie), so Baby 2.0 is my geeky internet-ish techie thing for my baby.

Anyhoo…

Baby 2.0 is 15 weeks today. I get to schedule my ultrasound to find out the sex of the baby at my next OB appointment in 4 weeks.

If the baby is a girl, we want to name her Lilyenne Rose. If the baby is a boy … um we already have a boy, so I am clueless on boys’ names for now. We’ll cross that bridge if the ultrasound says we need to, hehehe.

My official officially announced due date is April 8th (like I said a couple weeks back, but the OB double confirmed it today). But if ya think that’s when the baby is comin, notsomuch ;) April 8th is when the baby would be 40 weeks. Today my OB said I should “make it” to about 38 or 38 1/2 weeks so to cut a week or two off that April 8th due date as far as preparing for the baby to come. And yes, we are for sure doing a C-section. All this stuff I assumed based on last time, but it was nice to know that’s really the plan that my OB has too.

Ok, so now we wait as I continue to attend my vast array of doctor’s appointments :) hehe…
