Hi there,

Check out these articles (Shine and OC Register) about whooping cough being declared an epidemic here in California. I know several non-vaccinating families, and I know it has become quite the debate, but a quick read might help you rethink which type of risk you are taking by not vaccinating, especially for this.

I wish you all happiness and health.

I am in love with Heavy In Your Arms by Florence & The Machine! It’s on the Eclipse soundtrack. Here are the Lyrics. And I think being in love can feel like this sometimes. What do you think?

I was a heavy heart to carry
My beloved was weighed down
My arms around his neck
My fingers laced a crown
I was a heavy heart to carry
My feet dragged across the ground
And he took me to the river
Where he slowly let me drown

My love has concrete feet, my love’s an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles, over the waterfall

I’m so heavy. Heavy. Heavy in your arms
I’m so heavy. Heavy. Heavy in your arms

And is it worth the wait,
All this killing time?
Are you strong enough to stand,
Protecting both your heart and mine?
Who is the betrayer
Who’s the killer in the crowd?
The one who creeps in corridors
And doesn’t make a sound

My love has concrete feet, my love is an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles, over the waterfall
My love has concrete feet, my love is an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles, over the waterfall

I’m so heavy. Heavy. Heavy in your arms
I’m so heavy. Heavy. So heavy in your arms

This will be my last confession
“I love you” never felt like any blessing
Whisper it like it’s a secret
Uttered to condemn the one who hears it
With a heavy heart

Heavy. Heavy. Heavy. I’m so heavy in your arms
(I’m so heavy) Heavy, heavy. I’m so heavy in your arms
(I’m so heavy) Heavy, heavy. I’m so heavy in your arms
(I’m so heavy) Heavy, heavy. I’m so heavy in your arms

I was a heavy heart to carry
My beloved was weighed down
My arms around his neck
My fingers laced a crown
I was a heavy heart to carry
But he never let me down
When he held me in his arms
My feet never touched the ground

I’m so heavy
Heavy in your arms

Heavy. I’m so heavy in your arms

I have read far too many stories lately about parents killing their children. When you get to a point where you think you’re going to lose it, just walk away. It’s better than the alternative. Or take the child to a hospital and say you’re a danger to yourself and others. Anything… anything but hurting your own child.

And one story tonight about foster parents beating a 2 year old to the point of being on life support from several injuries, including a fractured skull… I just can’t believe it.

On one hand I am grateful that I am not desensitized to the point where I just see stories like these and move on completely unaffected. On the other hand I hate that I am helpless to do anything for these little babies, and I have to try and just let it go. I am very passionate about this subject.

I’m sorry to say that there were a few times my mom wailed on me so badly I really thought I was going to be done if she didn’t stop raging. God protected me time and again. I saw a lot of abuse in different parts of my family, and I saw people just lose it completely for no good reason.

There is too much at stake here parents…these little ones are entrusted to us, please stop hurting your babies and children!

It’s all about the Oakleys

New Beginnings…

Perhaps some new beginnings will be coming my way soon. It has been ages since I’ve been able to update my personal blog. Mainly because I update my work blogs, and of course, I am always on Facebook for work and personal time! Facebook is an amazing tool, and it is a great way to connect with everyone in my life. You can add me at http://facebook.com/advancedbourland. [UPDATE: I have opted out of my personal Facebook profile, but now have a "fan" page here where you can keep up with me, and my blog.]

I am still debating on whether I should begin my blog fresh and new and archive my old posts, or if I should just continue from this point.

The kids are doing wonderfully. Nick and I just celebrated 9 years of marriage last month! Lots going on with work, school, and 2 kids (Aidan just turned 5 last week; Scarlet turned 2 in March), but it’s all great!

Hope to update in a more significant way soon.
