My poor neglected blog and self-reflection (loathing?)… sigh.

Now that Nick is working on a novel (and I am a “creative consultant” and maybe co-writer if I take him up on that offer) – I am reminded that I am not writing anything right now.

I hope to update more soon. :)

Love you friends!

Intruder Alert!

I had my diabetic check up today. Had blood drawn. Got back a tad early and thought since I aleady had the rest of the day off I’d get some of my homework done. (I am in a degree program now… more on that another time).

Anyway, got home, walked in my front door… felt like the door was unlocked, but then again, I thought maybe I am just imagining it. No big deal.

Walked in – had my sunglasses on, plus it’s dark in here with all the blinds closed, even in the day time. Heard a startled intake of breath and something drop to the floor. It sounded like plastic hitting the kitchen floor.

Took my sunglasses off and looked up in time to see a man half way in my kitchen, half way in my “hall” turning toward me…

I turned my self right around and RAN to my car, jumped in, locked the door, started it in case I’d need to drive off. My carport is away from my door… called 911… Brea PD was here SO FAST! Called Nick to let him know. And to keep myself grounded, I plurked and twittered it to just keep the time moving.

2 more squad cars arrived after about 5 min of the first officer being in the apartment. The officers had their automatic weapons drawn and the turned the corner to approach my apartment.

A few more minutes went by, then the first arriving officer came and got me. He took me inside to have me show him what I saw, etc. He took the info, etc.

They figure the guy just ran after I ran away and left my front door open when I bailed. They searched around the nearby apartment common areas, streets, etc.

More police arrived, but they didn’t see any good prints, so they left. Then it was just me and the first arriving officer. He said he filed a suspicious incident report.

After they left I figured out what the plastic thing that dropped was, and why it wasn’t there anymore. I had vicodin left over from after my C-section… it’s gone. That’s all I can think of.

So – someone will get their cheap and uninteresting fix. And I’m sure all will be ok here.

… So much for having extra homework time. I am glad I ran, and had no confrontation beyond the quick turn and run.

Thank goodness for the Brea PD and their show of power.

They did tell the registered sex offender who lives by me to stop milling around… he was nosing around the whole time. He told the officer “I just get nervous when I see all these weapons drawn.” The officer said, “Oh we just like to get ‘em out and play with ‘em once in a while.” hahaha… so that was funny – Mr. Sex Offender can go away from me.

I am not freaked out… I think it was just a random incident, and some loser who decided to only take vicodin.

Sharing is Divine

The kiddos are now sharing a room, which means that Nick and I are now FINALLY sharing a room other than the living room! YAY!

We slept in our bed last night – together, at the same time, without having to avoid making a sound so we wouldn’t wake Scarlet… woo!

And the kiddos did well. Scarlet’s new crib came (did I mention the old one we used for Aidan was recalled?) and Nick got it all set up last night. They did great! Both slept through the night as usual. If their room had a bigger closet and the bathroom, we’d steal it and have them use ours. Their room is bigger, lol.

Now Scarlet is not sleeping in her pack n play in our room. We felt that getting her adjusted to a new crib would be the perfect time to try her in Aidan’s room. Now it’s “the kids’ room”.

Aidan was super excited to have his baby “stister” in his room. He said, it was great, and it was ok that she was whining at first because he just closed his eyes and went to sleep. It’s ok that she whines mommy… hahahaha… as he’s whining at me right now, sigh ;)

Gotta go grocery shopping before Don’s 70th b-day party. Aidan’s very excited about poppa’s b-day.

Quick Quake Info

Some posts I made on plurk regarding the quake… I’ll probably post more another time… all I have to say is it was NUTS on the 3rd floor of our crappy work building (seriously, the company that manages the building needs to stop “repairing” things and actually replace some stuff).

I ended up at Chris’ house icing my toe while I waited for Nick to check out our house before we got the kiddos from daycare

Daycare lady (Pam) had a bunch of stuff break (vases, glasses, etc) and the kids were screaming “help me” — my heart breaks for them…

I was screaming my head off during the quake because it caught me off guard so much and my computer tower fell on my big toe and it’s all blue and purple and still hurts pretty bad. I think everyone thought I was that scared of the quake, not that I wasn’t, but damn my toe hurt

And I couldn’t reach Pam on my cell afterward for a few minutes… so I cried in the parking lot because I couldn’t reach the kids.

That’s my story…. and hi all! :-)

Scarlet Grace:

Weight: 13 pounds
Height: 24 1/2 inches
Head Circ.: 39 1/2 cm

She got a few shots, and one oral immunization. She did very very well. Also, she hit 13 lbs so she can have the .08 dose of Tylenol instead of the .04 dose.

Aidan Grey:

Weight: (still) 28 pounds
Height: (I forgot to ask – I’ll update later)

Nurse: Ok, mom you’re gonna hold his arm and hand right here.

Me: [holds hand/arm]

Nurse [to Aidan]: Is it ok if I put a band-aid on your arm?

Aidan: SURE! (he LOVES bandages… weird, hehe)

Nurse: [gives Aidan shot in left upper arm]

Aidan: [crying of course]

Me: It’s ok honey, that’s it, we’re done.

Nurse: See you have a band-aid!

Aidan: [stops crying, commences scowling at Nurse]

Me: It’s ok honey.

Aidan: [turns head sharply to me and glares] She poked my ARM!

Me: [laughter and hugs]

Byetta

1 injection twice a day.

1st – 30 min before I eat breakfast
2nd – 30 min before I eat dinner

Started it this morning.

Kind of nauseated, but nothing like on the metformin. Hate injections, but do love that my blood sugar has not been out of whack so far. Well it’s been a tad low-ish (76 after breakfast) but that’s actually good control, not really hypoglycemically (new word?) low. Below 70 and it’d be notsogood. But I just ate some fruit after and was fine. I like fruit!!! :)

The nausea tends to be after injection, then eases up when I eat, then comes back after I eat. My after dinner blood sugar was 92 (not quite 2 hrs post-prandial) so wow. I am a happy camper with that. Just getting used to my sugars not hitting 200 so I feel like I have low blood sugar. I’ll even out.

Thank goodness I was smart and started it on the weekend… I don’t know how I would’ve done work in the AM feeling like I did today. But I’m sick with a cold too, so I am kind of a mess, hehe.

And maybe one day I’ll be a “hot mess” because weight loss is a major side effect of this medicine. It also can suppress your appetite. But it’s not a bad thing. The way the medicine works is by having your stomach empty out a lot more slowly. When you have diabetes your stomach empties faster than a non-diabetic’s. So the sugars raise AND we get hungrier and hungrier. UGH… so I’ll be glad to not have food on my mind as much.

I didn’t believe it would make me less hungry, but for dinner it sure did. I got 2 tacos and a chalupa at Taco Bell (yah, did not want to cook, it was so hot). So I took my shot, then drove to Taco Bell and back. Oooh also ordered cinnamon twists to share with the hubby. And guess what? I ate 1 taco, and 1/2 (maybe 2/3) of my chalupa, and one cinnamon twist (because I felt bad I ordered them and didn’t eat ‘em, haha). So there sits 1 uneaten taco, bag of cinnamon twists (which hubby didn’t eat) and part of a chalupa. And I’m fine. Feel like blood sugar is low-ish but I’ll just nibble something and be ok.

Hope it stays good, and the nausea subsides soon. (If I’m “normal” it should go away within a week or two).

Balls

Aidan has a tube of 3 tennis balls that Ziya gave to him. Ziya is Pam’s husband… Pam is our daycare provider if you’re just catching up ;)

Aidan is sitting down at his tray for dinner… I move the table away… the table has the tube of tennis balls on it… which slowly got farther away from him…

Aidan: My balls!

Me: You can play with your balls after dinner!

Nick: You walked right into that one…

I don’t have a lot of time to blog right now – work, 2 kids, etc. So you can follow me on twitter where I make short updates on what I’m up to. Of course I’ll still post, just the twitter updates will have more info for now.

Look on the right side of my blog and you’ll see the Twitter Updates section. That will update each time I “tweet” on Twitter.

Want to join Twitter? Check it out at http://www.twitter.com/

Today we’re hanging “in” watching movies, playing video games, coloring with Aidan, cleaning, etc. Relaxing too I hope.

Got rid of our “death trap” entertainment unit that we’ve had since we got married (7 years). Had enough of it almost tipping, and with all the little quakes we’ve been having didn’t want to chance a bigger one causing an injury or worse around here. Sounds silly but I’m serious. We had a heavy TV that we shoved back far while we pulled the entertainment unit away from the wall … used the weight of the TV to try and keep the entertainment unit “stable”. No anchor and it was super top heavy.

Of course, get rid of that and … well that leads to our recent purchase on our Best Buy CC. 32″ LCD HDTV, new stand, HDMI cable, DVD storage (the cheapie kind), 4 yr product protection plan for the TV. Yah well… I’m back at work now, I’ll get paid soon, and it’s interest free for 12 months. Not as huge of a purchase as I’m making it sound though really. Had a bunch of discounts.

It looks AWESOME.

Don’t judge, you know you want to come over. ;)

Oh and we now have a PS3 (that was last week) – Damnit – Best Buy CC you weakened me. But it’s been since before Nick lost his last job over a year ago that we’ve had any money we could spend. Now he’s at Oakley and SO happy and I love my job, it’s all happy. Now only if we could get some sleep………………………………….

Happy Saturday! :)

Ok, so it’s been a while since my last update of actual stuff going on. And as you can imagine I haven’t had much time. So get off my back… OKAY? hehehe…

So Scarlet is growing, she’s awesome! She started daycare on Tuesday so we could get her used to it a bit. Good thing too… her first couple of days were rough and I got some phone calls with questions, etc. I can’t imagine having to field all that on my first day back at work… hello stressful!

Oh yah, I go back to work tomorrow morning! I am going back a week early… why not, eh? It will be nice to get back into the swing of things.

Aidan is super funny lately – even more than usual. Very cute with his little sister as well. Tonight he grabbed the baby’s hand and closed his eyes and prayed… “Dear Jesus… thank you for today and mommy and daddy, etc…. AMEN” how cute – he prayed with her… awwww! :) He said more than that… just giving the short version.

It’s so neat to see him grow. He’ll be 3 very soon (less than a month) and it puts all the stuff with the baby in perspective. It reminds me all the screaming will stop and become different screaming. But 3 year old screaming is ok because you usually know why and you are allowed to put them in a time out. No time out for a little baby, hehe.

Scarlet will be 7 weeks old tomorrow, woo hoo! Time flies.

Sorry for the bits and pieces… I know there’s more… more happy little nuggets of goodness but I can’t remember it all now, Scarlet is crying and I still need to eat dinner…

Have a good night all, and Happy Mother’s Day to my momma friends and to my momma momma Angela.

Family Pics

Once again we had a photo shoot with our friends’ company – they are great on-location photographers in Orange County. This time we did our family pics. We went to a park by our house in the dusk/twilight time. It was super hot even still at that time of day, sheesh!

I love the family photos!! Check ‘em out at http://www.ItTakesTwoPhoto.com/bourlandfamily2008/

Can I just say the photos at the end where I am behind the fence are my faves – hides the post-prego belly!! :)
