My weekends are not planned weeks in advance, and I won’t be the life of the next ten little kid birthday parties. My column this week goes over how and why I took my weekends back, and how that will help me lose weight.

What do weekends mean to you? Are they a time of relaxation where you daydream as you swirl your icy lemonade in a sweaty glass? I am willing to bet the majority of us say, “I wish!”

On any given weekend, this mom can find a few birthday parties, a church function, a couple of “sales parties” and nearly any other activity to occupy the precious minutes I have free from working.

What has happened to us that our weekends are just another set of obligations?

What do you do when you feel like going to the gym isn’t “working”? Is it all in your head? Is there something wrong? For me anemia was the main culprit… but now I’m starting my in-home workouts and heading back to the gym soon. Read my latest column and share your thoughts in the comments on the article page

Print must not be dead, because seeing myself in print has made me feel very alive! I was happy to have one of my OC Moms columns included in the Tues May 24, 2011 print edition of the Orange County Register. I thought I’d share a quick picture of the article in print. This is my first column in the paper, and I’m really honored to be part of the OC Moms section of the Register. I was next to a bunch of stuff about Oprah’s last show and her stunning career, and above the movie show times. If you get the OC Register, you can find the story on page 3 of the LIFE section.

Please check out my latest column at OC Moms. This week I share my story about how I triumphed with weight loss, and now I need to start all over again.

It all started in 2003. I was suddenly sick after every meal – no matter what I ate. I tried things that would be gentler on my stomach, like bread, or rice. Nothing helped. No matter how little I ate, I was rapidly gaining weight. I felt like a freight train was coming at me, but I couldn’t tell from which direction.

WORK, HEALTH, LOVE

As some of you may already know, in addition to my “day job”, I am now a columnist for OC Moms. I have a weekly column featured every Friday in the OC Moms section of the OCRegister.com website called WORK, HEALTH, LOVE. This column is all about my journey to get fit again, and the struggles that full time working moms face. I will also be doing a few additional columns about events, books, and anything else relevant to parents in the Orange County area.

You can check out my column archive here: http://ocmoms.com/anna and you can subscribe to the RSS feed so you never miss a thing. My column is published every Friday.
